EXERCISE No# 2
PURSUIT SEARCH |
 |
|
The handler takes up his
surveillance position. After a short time and at a distance of about
100 yards, a person appears. The person is moving away at a walking
pace.
As soon as dog has been alerted to that person, the handler calls
his departmental warning. After the first call the person quickly
runs away and stops in a hiding place. He is about 30 yards away from
the spot were he originally appeared. After the second call, the handler
sends his dog. |
 |
|
 |
The handler immediately
follows the dog up to the point where the person first appeared and
waits. He does not influence the dog in any way.
The dog must run as fast as possible to catch up with the person and
must find the person by himself, either by picking up his track or
by locating his body scent. |
|
When the dog locates the person, the dog must guard and bark.
As soon as the dog is barking, the handler approaches in a tactical
manner and about a distance of (10) yards he will then down
his dog.
Depending on the circumstances, the handler leaves the dog down
or recalls him. The handler then orders the person to come out
of his hiding place. |
 |
|
He then searches the person and his hiding place; while the dog is
guarding the suspect. After this, the person is released.
