EXERCISE No# 3

ATTACK ON HANDLER/MASTER PROTECTION

The Handler and Dog shall heel along a predetermined route. A person shall emerge from a hiding place and attempt to assault the Handler.
The Dog shall defend its handler without hesitation by engaging in strong combat. The perpetrator/suspect shall be armed with a simulated weapon such as a stick.

At some point during the apprehension, the suspect shall strike the Dog twice sharply on the less sensitive parts of its body.
Now the release/outing shall be evaluated. The dog shall continue in apprehending the suspect or until the perpetrator begins to exhibit a distinct change of behavior or is no longer resisting arrest.

Suspect shall clearly want to give up and show signs of extreme fear.

Suspect shall make defensive gestures toward the Dog, as if trying to protect himself from further injury. At this point the Handler shall out the dog.

When the Dog releases/outs, the person shall continue to act fearful. His actions shall be vigorous and loud, but clearly fearful. Suspect shall not, but neither be threatening.

At this point the Dog shall remain alert and quiet while the Handler conducts a search of the suspect and places the individual under arrest. The dog shall heel beside its Handler as the suspect is escorted to the evaluator for remanding.
